since conquering my fear of taking the written portion of the driver’s test, and obtaining my license (okay, it’s a learner’s permit) in order to be able to help ashleigh make the drive to and from columbus this past january, i had almost forgotten i was now able to drive myself around — with a 21+ year old chaperone in the passenger seat, that is. hashtag thanks learner’s permit stipulations.
but today i remembered, and today i phoned my mum and asked her to come along (and be my driving chaperone) for our lunch date at crown center. she hurried on over, jumped in the car, and the three of us headed south.
some rather wild, unexpected wind prompted the short sleeve-wearing liam to ask if he could borrow grandma’s jacket (because as i’ve said before, she always comes prepared). we weaved in and out of the friday afternoon crowds. posed with the liam-sized lego man. stopped liam from trying to disassemble him. ordered a bowl of tomato basil, the frontega chicken panini, macaroni and cheese, and just about a million baguettes from panera to share. saved a portion to bring to papa at work. sat at the window. people watched. people drew. resisted the urge to jump into the freezing cold fountains. made plans to make this sort of thing a regular occurrence.
