with his costume chosen two long months before all hallows’ eve, i thought he might stumble upon it hanging in the closet and begin to second guess if he had made the right choice. but, after recently marathoning through every marvel movie with me and papa, he was committed to being cap (who he’d like better if he was called captain world, not, y’know, racist and sexist america).
we surprised the hell out of my mum by meeting up with a mask-wearing, hip-shaking, high-five-giving (brother-like figure) steven. walked to the river market in full costume (or liam did, anyway). snapped roughly a million photos in front of the white wall (because tradition). ordered pizza and bruschetta to share at il lazzarone. visited papa at work. opened presents from steven at mum and dad’s. caught up on all things life. picked up sweets at mud pie. hiked our way through a slightly spooky, near-sunset, rotting-pumpkin-dotted, just-add-fog parkville nature sancutary. started planning costumes for three for next year.
but, to be fair, we’ve tried planning costumes for three each year liam has been with us, and have never once been successful. but i’m feeling a little optimistic (could be the baked goods talking), so who knows. maybe next year we really do pull it off.
